The “Spot Fix” Initiative, an action-oriented faculty empowerment program by Ethos | Arcause and hosted by Nitte School of Architecture Planning and Design (NSAPD), concluded as a resounding success, leaving participating educators deeply inspired and equipped with practical tools. Faculty members found the two-day workshop highly immersive, with Day 1’s cross-institutional discussions sparking a wealth of ideas and providing crucial insights into the pedagogical nuances of different regional colleges. The sessions were so engaging that several attendees requested future iterations to be extended over multiple days to allow for deeper knowledge transfer and synthesis. Day 2, exclusive to NSAPD faculty, proved exceptionally fruitful; under the guidance of Prof. Durganand Balsavar, educators tackled the complexities of open-ended syllabi, learning how to formulate integrated assignments and structured assessments. This cross-disciplinary integration not only aims to significantly reduce the academic load on students but also ensures that core course and program outcomes are effectively achieved. Ultimately, Prof. Balsavar’s vast experience and wisdom provided massive, actionable takeaways, empowering faculty to confidently dismantle traditional silos and implement a seamless, interconnected design curriculum.

What is the “Spot Fix”?
“SpotFix” is an agile, targeted faculty empowerment program built on a simple premise: identify the exact, systemic pain points educators face and provide immediate, actionable support to fix them.Instead of generic lectures, “SpotFix” operates like a diagnostic clinic for design education.
Spot Fix!
At its heart, Spot Fix is about precision and partnership. We identify a specific college and collaborate on a tailored initiative that provides direct, actionable support to their faculty. Today’s session is hosted by Ethos Arcause in association with the Rainmatter Foundation, and it represents a vital step in our mission.
Our topic for today is ‘Architectural Sites as Gender Domains.’ This is the first stage of a two-phased initiative. Today, we gather as a panel to map the challenges and share lived experiences; tomorrow, these insights will be distilled into a tangible Capacity Building Activity for students and a toolkit for educators.
This initiative is a reflection of the Ethos Foundation’s core vision. We believe that by fostering platforms for open dialogue and shared learning, we can empower educators to collectively shape a more dynamic, relevant, and impactful educational landscape. For us, a strong foundation in education is the cornerstone of a progressive society. Through this initiative, we aim to bridge the gap between site realities and classroom pedagogy, ultimately helping build a more robust framework for the next generation of learners.

Ethos I Arcause is an initiative dedicated to making socially responsible design a fundamental part of the Architectural, Construction, Engineering, and Design (ACED) community. Through initiatives that help in actively building awareness within the community and by encouraging and spotlighting those who are already practicing responsible design as their core principle, our goal is to inspire everyone to work together so we can positively change the future of the built environment.

How to Frame & Asses a Design project by Prof.Snehanshu Mukherjee
A project brief shapes the entire learning arc of a design studio – it is where intent meets imagination, and clarity meets exploration. Yet, framing a brief that is both open and directed remains one of the most delicate and defining aspects of design education.
In this session, Ar. Snehanshu Mukherjee will lead a reflective conversation on how faculty can create briefs that truly nurture inquiry, critical thinking, and architectural understanding. The discussion will focus on assessment frameworks – how to evaluate outcomes in ways that align with pedagogical goals rather than reduce them to mere deliverables.
Educator’s Insight – Immersive Conversations
We’re bringing together 16 educators from design and architecture colleges across India for an in-depth conversation on the pedagogical frameworks shaping education today. This four-day discussion aims to gather diverse insights and lived experiences from educators, helping us identify gaps, opportunities, and directions for new initiatives that strengthen academic practice and support faculty development.
The conversations will unfold over four key themes — Curriculum and Pedagogy, Professional Preparedness and Industrial Connections, Collaborative and Community Learning, and Faculty Development and Empowerment.
Through these dialogues, we hope to build a deeper understanding of how teaching methods, institutional structures, and community linkages can together foster more inclusive, future-ready educational environments.
