Sustainable Practices for a Built Environment for Future Generations

During her extensive journey across India, Gita Balakrishnan witnessed firsthand the immense scale of consumption within the building industry and the lasting impact it has on the environment. From the extraction of raw materials to the construction process and eventual disposal of waste, every step in building contributes to environmental degradation. Recognising the urgent need for sustainable practices, she realised that the conventional approach to construction is inherently unsustainable. Every structure built leaves a permanent mark on the earth, contributing to resource depletion, pollution, and climate change. In response to these challenges, there is a growing imperative to adopt sustainable practices that minimise environmental impact while meeting the needs of current and future generations.
